  wanda koop sightlines

Gallery 1C03 is honoured to present the paintings of internationally recognized artist Wanda Koop. In Sightlines, Koop investigates "ideas of memory and landscape, the cultural construction of nature and the accumulated images and motifs which we have learned to link together in a coherent representation of place." The artist's serene, imaginary landscapes are disrupted by the imposition of "sightlines" inspired by video cameras, military devices, surveillance apparatus, and a host of other computerized equipment. The result is a collision between the natural world and electronic technologies in our reading of the world around us. Koop's Sightlines installation at Gallery 1C03 will consist of five large canvases and several preparatory studies, thereby giving visitors insight into the artistic process.

There will be a free public artist's talk in Gallery 1C03 on Friday, January 24 at 12:30 p.m.
