Conceived as a response to P.K. Page's poem "Planet Earth," Mary Louise Chown's video and sculptural installation engages our sense of sight, touch, and sound to consider our role in the care of our fragile surroundings. This environmental message is underscored by the use of natural materials and the depiction of human interaction with these materials in the natural world. Chown's integration of the spoken word and visual imagery in her work is consistent with her background as a storyteller and visual artist. She notes that the two art forms "are continually intersecting in my work and my life. Both leave spaces for viewer and listener to enter into an experience and raise important questions."

There will be a free public artist's talk in Gallery 1C03 on Friday, September 27 at 12:30 p.m.
